Ember Church is a Pentecostal church based in the heart of Bellevue, WA. Their mission is to bring the gospel to Bellevue and beyond by creating a welcoming space where people can encounter God, grow in community, and live out their faith. With a focus on connection, discipleship, and Spirit-led teaching, Ember strives to serve both their local neighborhood and the broader region through outreach, worship, and intentional ministry.

  • Delivered cohesive, professional materials that strengthened Ember’s visual presence and reinforced trust and clarity across key touchpoints.
  • Transformed complex information into clear, easy-to-follow booklets, improving readability and creating a more confident, welcoming experience for both new and returning attendees.
  • Equipped the staff with organized, print-ready files and a consistent design system that simplified reordering, updating, and future content creation.

Outcomes

  • Establishing a consistent visual direction that aligned with Ember’s values while elevating the overall look and feel of their materials, balancing warmth with clarity to support a diverse congregation.
  • Designing user-friendly, print-ready resources that prioritized clear hierarchy and accessibility, ensuring materials could be easily understood and used by both new visitors and long-time members.
  • Building a flexible design system the staff could easily maintain, reducing reliance on ongoing design support and ensuring long-term consistency across future church materials.

Strategy

  • Navigating a lack of a clear visual identity and creating cohesive, modern materials that still felt true to the heart of the church.
  • Balancing input from multiple departments with different needs and communication styles, and translating broad ideas into clear, functional design.
  • Designing complex booklets and print pieces that required careful formatting, binding considerations, and easy reprintability for long-term use.

Challenges

Over a six-month period, I partnered with Ember Church to elevate their visual communication and create a cohesive suite of printed resources that reflected the heart of their mission. As both a member and designer, I approached the project with a deep understanding of the community, redesigning essentials booklets, devotionals, and supporting materials to create a more welcoming and engaging experience for new and returning attendees. This project was not only a creative challenge but also a meaningful opportunity to give back to a place that has shaped me, resulting in thoughtful, functional designs that the church can continue to use and build upon.
